Jennies Handle Bearcats to Remain Undefeated

BOLIVAR, Mo. (Oct. 22, 2017)-- Top-ranked Jennies Soccer won their 16th consecutive game and posted their second straight shutout as they handled the Southwest Baptist Bearcats, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Plaster Stadium.
 
How It Happened
• The Jennies (16-0-0, 9-0-0 MIAA) were once again dominate in controlling the pace of the game against the Bearcats (3-11-2, 1-7-1 MIAA). UCM took 17 shots, with nine coming on goal while limiting to SBU to five shots overall.
• The Jennies scored three goals in each period. The first goal came within the first three minutes when Jada Scott scored the first goal of the game at the 2:06 mark. Abby Rhodes was credited the assist.
• Rhodes and Scott teamed up again in the 15th minute, this time it was Rhodes who scored while Scott got the assist to give UCM a 2-0 lead.
• The Jennies added the third goal in the 34th minute when Mallory Broady got down the middle of the field off a pass from Taylor Thompson and hit the left end of the net to make it 3-0 by halftime.
• It took some time before the Jennies scored in the second period, but when they did they scored two within a minute of each other to go up 5-0 over the Bearcats. Baylie Edwards scored at 56:26 mark to make it 4-0, and 37 second later, Makayla Toth made it 5-0.
• Mikala Modiri added the sixth and final goal in the 86th minute.
 
Jennies Stat Leaders
• Edwards took the most shots with four overall with two coming on goal and finished with two points.
• Rhodes finished with three points on one goal and one assist to lead the Jennies. Rhodes, Toth, Scott, Broady, and Mallory Kroencke all finished with two shots overall.
• In net, Ana Dilkes grabbed four saves in five shots faced. She finished the weekend with back-to-back-shutouts.
 
For the Bearcats
• No players for the Bearcats finished with more than one shot in the game. Averi Walker, Tessa Wagner, Brooke Herald, Mikayla Putt, and Mallory Lepper all had one shot each.
• Goalkeeper Ashlynn Gibbs grabbed three saves in 17 shots faced while allowing all six goals.
 
News and Notes
• The Jennies are 16-0-0 for the second time in program history. The only other team to be undefeated through 16 games without a tie is the 2010 team for UCM.
• With her two shutouts this weekend, Dilkes now has 57 career shutouts. She needs just three more to become the all-time leader in NCAA Division II history.
• The Jennies have scored in 49 consecutive games dating back to the 2015 season, which is an MIAA record.
• UCM has posted shutouts in all eight road games this season and has outscored opponents a combined 29-0 after Sunday's win.
 
Up Next
• The Jennies will wrap up regular season play next week with two more road games. They will head to Lindenwood on Friday, Oct. 27, for a battle against the Lions. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
