Jennies Come Out on Top in Top-25 Battle

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 21, 2017) - No. 18 Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball put on a show in front of their home crowd, coming out on top 3-1 (25-13, 31-29, 24-26, 24-17) against No. 10 Central Oklahoma. The Jennies offense was clicking all afternoon with everyone playing a role in the win. The win puts the Jennies at 19-5 this season and 9-2 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• Central Missouri played a complete game with contributions from everyone. The Jens hit .311 in the match, landing 77 kills to the Bronchos 50.
• UCO led the MIAA in hitting percentage at .262 entering the weekend, but hit just .222 on the afternoon. UCM recorded 82 digs.
• The Jennies did have to overcome some unforced errors, as they gave away 12 points on service errors.
• The first set seemed almost too good to be true. UCM scored the first five points in the match and forced a quick Central Oklahoma timeout. The Jens never trailed in the set and rolled to a 25-13 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match. UCM hit .421 in the frame with 18 kills and only two errors.
• Set two saw excellent volleyball played by both teams and 25 wasn't nearly enough points to decide a winner. It was UCO who got out quick with a 10-4 lead, but a 7-1 UCM run tied the set at 11-all. That wasn't the only tie. There were 16 in this one frame alone along with seven lead changes. The teams continued to trade points, blowing right by 25 when Molly Lawrence tied things at 25-25 with a kill. The Jennies took the advantage four straight times, only to see the Bronchos retie it each time. Finally, a Broncho attack error gave UCM the serve and Aubree Bell ended it with her fifth kill of the set.
• Set three played out just like the one prior. This one contained nine ties and four lead changes. After the first 20 points, neither team had held a lead larger than three points and we were all tied at 10-apiece. The Bronchos took their biggest lead, 20-16, but the Jens roared back with seven straight, taking a 23-20 lead and were on the verge of a 3-0 sweep. But UCO climbed out of the hole and scored six of the final seven points to stay alive with a 26-24 win. UCM had 20 kills in the set, eight from Kasey Hohlen.
• After two sets that left the crowd holding their collective breath, everyone was able to breathe easier in set four. The Jennies took a 2-1 lead and never looked back, building a lead as large as 10, 20-10 after a kill from Bell. UCO scored four straight near the end, but it was too little, too late, and the Jens walked off with a 25-17 win and 3-1 win in the match.
