Mules Rack Up 662 Total Yards in Win Over Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 21, 2017)-- Central Missouri Mules Football put up 500-plus yards of total offense and scored 40-plus points for the third straight game as they won a high-scoring game, 62-42, against the Washburn Ichabods Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium.

How It Happened
• The Mules (6-2, 6-2 MIAA) scored 62 points as they put up 306 rushing yards and 356 passing yards. UCM had 662 total yards on offense with 35 first downs.
• UCM was a perfect 6-for-6 in the red zone for the second consecutive game while going 9-of-14 on third down attempts.
• The Mules defense had three sacks for a combined loss of 30 yards. They had three takeaways on two forced fumbles and one interception.
• The Mules got on the board first, with a two-yard run by Brook Bolles. He produced one more touchdown on the ground and four through the air.
• The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter. The Mules took a 13-7 lead into the second quarter after a three-yard run by Devante Turner late in the first, but the PAT was blocked.
• Both teams scored two touchdowns in the second quarter as they went back-and-forth for the lead. Washburn scored the first and last touchdowns, but the Mules scored back-to-back touchdowns to lead 27-21 at halftime. A five-yard touchdown run by Turner and a 16-yard touchdown pass from Bolles to Seth Hebert help give the Mules a six-point lead after two quarters of play.
• Washburn scored three touchdowns in the third quarter while holding UCM to just one and led 42-41 going into the fourth quarter. Hebert caught his second touchdown pass at the 11:31 mark in the third to give the Mules a 34-28 lead, but the Mules did not hold it as they did not score again in the third.
• After trailing 42-41, the Mules outscored the Ichabods 28-0 in the final quarter of play to win 62-42.
• Bolles put up three total touchdowns in the fourth to lead the Mules comeback. He had a 32-yard touchdown run to start the fourth. After key stops by the UCM defense, Bolles found Kyrion Parker and Koby Wilkerson for touchdown passes of 34 yards and 18 yards, respectively. 
• Turner added the final touchdown on a 30-yard run to bring to the final of 62-42, Mules.

It Was Over When...
• With a 55-42 lead over the Ichabods with 5:10 left to play, the Mules defense got a strip sack and recovered the ball to ice the game. Austin Miller got the sack on quarterback Blake Peterson for a loss of 15 yards and the loose ball was recovered by Codie Bell at the Washburn 29-yard line.

Mules Stat Leaders
• Bolles had his best all-around game as he put up 356 passing yards on 23-of-36 passing for four touchdowns. He also led the ground game for the Mules rushing for 117 yards on 18 carries for two touchdowns.
• Turner was second in rushing yards with 96 on 15 carries and had the most scores on the ground with three. Wilkerson rushed for 84 yards on 15 touches.
• Hebert only caught five passes, but they were for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Jaylen Zachery had the most catches with six for 60 yards.
Diaron Rhodes led the defense with 13 total tackles, with 11 being solo tackles. He had one tackle for loss and forced a fumble.
Austin Miller had one and a half sacks for 18 yards lost and had three tackles for loss. He forced the only other fumble for the Mules defense.
Dylan Albertson had the only interception which he returned for 15 yards.

For the Ichabods
• Peterson threw for 312 yards on 25-of-36 passing for three touchdowns and had one interception.
• James Brania-Hopp had the most catches for Washburn with seven, which was good for 139 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Ichabods. On the ground, Zach Willis finished the day with 144 rushing yards on 14 carries.
• Heath Tucker had 16 total tackles to lead Washburn's defense, with eight solo and eight assisted. He also forced one fumble as did Derrick McGreevy.

News and Notes
• The Mules are still undefeated against Washburn under Head Coach Jim Svoboda at 6-0 after Saturday's win. All-time the Mules move to 27-18-2 against the Ichabods.
• Central Missouri put up 500-plus yard of total offenses for their third straight game.
• Bolles threw for over 300 yards for the fifth straight game. His four passing touchdowns matches his career-high, while his six total touchdowns are a career-high.
• This is the first game of the season where Alex Langer did not attempt or make a single field goal. He was 6-of-8 on PAT kicks.

• The Mules will hit road again next week, this time to Edmond, Okla. On Saturday, Oct. 28, they will take on the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Wantland Stadium
