Jennies Soccer Posts Program Record 10th Straight Shutout

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 1, 2017)—In a rematch of 2016 Central Region Championship, the third-ranked Jennies Soccer team (10-0-0, 3-0-0 MIAA) once again came out on top over the Fort Hays State Tigers (5-3-2, 2-1-0 MIAA). The Jennies shutout the Tigers 2-0 Sunday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium.

How it Happened
• The Jennies scored one goal in each period and got some help from the Tigers on their first goal. With the wind playing a factor, the Jennies only got off five shots in the first period.
• Central Missouri got on the board in the 24th minute thanks to an own goal by the Tigers. A Tiger defender played a header from the middle of the box that was meant to go over the net, but the wind sailed it into the left end of the net.
• Going into halftime with the 1-0 lead, the Jennes held a 5-2 shots advantage ove rthe Tigers with a 3-2 shots on goal edge.
• UCM pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute off a header by Jada Scott. Baylie Edwards got the ball into the left side of the box to Abby Rhodes who played a quick pop up pass to Scott for the header into the left end of the net.
• The Jennies put up five shots in the seond period with two being on goal. They finished the gameoutshooting the Tigers 10-3 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Scott led the way for the Jennies for the second straight game. She finished the day with four shots total, one of which was on goal. She now has five goals on the season.
• Edwards and Rhodes both had one shot on the day and were each credited the assist on Scott's goal. Edwards has four assists this season to tie the team lead with Scott, while Rhodes has three.
Makayla Toth was the only other Jennie to have more than one shot, finishing with two total, both of which were on goal.
• In net, Ana Dilkes grabbed two saves for the second straight game and faced just three shots to move to 10-0 on the season.
• The Jennies defense put on another solid performance allowing a season-low three total shots by the Tigers, two of which were on goal as they posted their 10th straight shutout.

For the Tigers
• Darby Hirsch led the way for the Fort Hays State offense with two shots total and one shot on goal.
• Goalkeeper Megan Kneefel had three saves for the Tigers while allowing two goals.

News and Notes
• UCM has now scored a goal in 43 straight games, dating back to the 2015 season.
• The Jennies defense and Dilkes both set a program record for consecutive shutouts with 10. The previous best was nine straight which the defense and Dilkes accomplished in 2016.
• UCM's 10 consecutive shutouts also ties the MIAA record set by Truman State during the 2000 season (9/23-10/28).
• Dilkes also tied the MIAA record for consecutive goalkeeper shutouts with Emily Huyck of Truman State who had 10 straight during the 2000 season (9/23-10/28).

• The Jennies are home for their next four games. Their four-game home stand starts Friday, Oct. 6, as they host the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jennies Field.
