SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Jan. 4, 2017)-- The Central Missouri Mules Wrestling team picked up its third dual win of the season with a 25-24 win over in region foe Drury. The Mules and Panthers tied 24-24 after the 10 matches, but the Mules won on point criteria.

After the first two matches of the night, both teams were tied at 6-6. The Mules forfeited at 125 pounds and the Panthers forfeited at 133 pounds. The Mules and Panthers first true match came at 141 pounds where Bradley Irwin scored a 6-4 decision over Lawyer Morgan-Beckum to give the Mules their first lead at 9-6.

UCM pushed its lead to 15-6, with Zachary Schridde winning by way of forfeit at 149 pounds. Drury responded with 157 pounder Cory Pych picking up a 6-4 decision over Steffon Fassett. The Mules then won the next two weight classes to lead 24-9. Jesse Reser won the 165-pound weight class with 8-2 decision and Cody Carson won at 174 pounds via forfeit.

The Panthers mounted a comeback winning the final three weight classes. John Oss pinned Allan Person at 184 pounds in 2:52 to bring Drury within 24-15. At 197 pounds, Jared Rennick pinned Grant Sparks in 15 seconds to cut the Mules lead to 24-21.

In the last bout of the night, Chase Miller and Ben Melton battled into two overtime periods at 285 pounds. Melton scored a 5-3 tiebreaker to defeat Miller and tie the score 24-24. The officials gave UCM the 25-24 victory on point criteria, as the Mules scored 22 decision points, while the Panthers scored 16.

The Mules will host their first home dual of 2017 Friday, Jan. 6, against MIAA foe Newman. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Multi.
