No. 2 Jennies Soccer Scores Season High Five Goals in Conference Opening Win at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. (Sept. 25, 2016)-- The second ranked Central Missouri Jennies put on an offensive clinic in their conference opener at Northwest Missouri State scoring five goals Sunday afternoon. The Jennies improve to 7-0 on the season.

The Jennies would score three goals in the first half and add two more in the second to secure their seventh win of the season. Junior Baylie Edwards, senior Emily Eldridge, and freshman Alex Harms all scored in the first half. Sophomores Emily Griffin and Courtney Killian scored in the second half.

In net, junior keeper Ana Dilkes grabbed two saves to remain undefeated this season as she picked up win number seven.

The Jennies found opportunities early but could not connect right away. Redshirt sophomore Jada Scott took three shots in the first 15 minutes, but could not connect. It was in the 25th minute when the Jennies got on the board. Edwards would nail a shot into the far right post off an assist from Hamner.

Five minutes later, Eldridge would push Central Missouri's lead to 2-0 after taking an assist from junior Taylor Thompson on a corner kick. Thompson's kick hit the crossbar and Eldridge was in the right place to score her first goal of the season.

The Jennies scored goal number three in the 41st minute when Harms scored her second goal of the season off a cross from Thompson and Hamner.

In the second half, the Jennies continued to dominate on offense with Griffin scoring her first goal of the season 58th minute. She took an assist from Thompson inside the box and nailed her shot that deflected of the keeper's hands into the middle of the net to push the lead to 4-0. Thompson finished the day with three assists to lead the Jennies.

The fifth and final goal for Central Missouri came from Killian in the 81st minute. She would get help from Harms, who tapped the ball into the box where Killian nailed a high shot to the left side of the net over the keeper's head. Killian's goal is her first of the season and Harms' assist would be her second of the day.

Offensively, the Jennies finished with 16 total shots, seven shots on goal, and six assists. Prior to Sunday's game the Jennies had only scored one goal in each their last three games.

Defense would also show no signs of slowing down for the Jennies as they posted their seventh straight shutout. The Jennies held the Bearcats to just six total shots and two shots on goal. The Jennies have now held their last six opponents to under ten total shots in a game.

This is the first time in program history the Jennies have started the season undefeated and posted shutouts in every game. They are also the only remaining team in the MIAA who has held every opponent scoreless this season.

The Jennies will return home this coming weekend. They will host Nebraska-Kearney Friday Sept. 30 and Fort Hays State Sunday Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
