WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Sept. 30, 2016)--The second-ranked Central Missouri Jennies continued their impressive start to the 2016 season with a 3-0 shutout win against MIAA foe Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night at Jennies Field.
Central Missouri posted two goals in the first half and one in the second to secure their eighth win of the season and second win in MIAA play. Senior
Hannah Pyle, freshman
Kelsey Mueller and junior
Kayla Hamner scored for the Jennies.
In net, junior
Ana Dilkes collected five saves and won her eighth game of the season. She has posted shutouts in all eight games and the win on Friday night also gave her 50 for her career.
The Jennies wasted little time getting on the board when Pyle scored off a corner kick from junior
Taylor Thompson in second minute of the match. Thompson's kick came into the box, where it bumped off Pyle's leg and crossed the goal line before the goalkeeper could recover it. Thompson's assist is her fourth of the season.
Pyle's goal is her second of the season and the 26th of her career. She moved into seventh all-time in program history in goals. Her goal also bumped her point total to 66.
The Jennies scored goal number two exactly 11 minutes later in the 13th minute. Mueller shook her defender and had open field from 25 feet out. She ran down the middle of the field and nailed her shot into the upper left corner of the net, well out of reach for the goalkeeper. Mueller's goal was the first of her career.
Hamner provided the third and final goal for Central Missouri in the second half at the 54 minute mark with the help of redshirt sophomore
Jada Scott. Hamner and Scott passed the ball back and forth between defenders in the left side of the box and Hamner sent her shot into the far right side of the net past the goalkeeper's hands. Hamner's goal was her first of the season and for Scott it was her third assist of the season.
Defensively, the Jennies continued to dominate as they have all season. The Jennies held the Nebraska-Kearney to just seven total shots and five shots on goal. The Jennies are the only remaining team in Division II who have yet to give up a goal this season.
Offensively, the Jennies took 11 total shots and six shots on goal. The Jennies have scored eight total goals in their last two games after going a three game span of scoring one goal in each game.
The Jennies continue MIAA play this Sunday, Oct. 2 when they host Fort Hays State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Jennies Field at the South Rec Complex.
