PENSACOLA, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2016) - Jennies Volleyball picked up their second sweep in as many days with a 3-0 win over Carson-Newman, 25-19, 25-13, 25-19. They move to 2-0 on the season and have another match later tonight against No. 23 West Florida.
Kylie Hohlen was the only Jennie with double-digit kills, landing 10. She picked up her first double-double of the season with 13 digs.
Cheyanne Lyons chipped in with nine kills and
Kasey Hohlen added eight.
Kourtney Thompson picked up a game-high 28 assists and
Katie Carlson shared the game-high digs with Hohlen, with 13.
The offense enjoyed a very efficient day hitting .402 for the match, committing only six errors compared to 15 for Carson-Newman. The Jens also landed six blocks, getting three block assists apiece from
Kasey Hohlen and
Maddie Jones.
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the opening set. Carson-Newman led as late as 18-17, but the Jennies scored eight of the final nine points to take a 25-19 first set win.
With the score tied 5-5 in the second set, the Jennies used a 15-4 run to open up an 11-point lead at 20-11. They closed out the set with a kill from each Hohlen.
The two teams started out in a tight battle in the third and final set. Tied at nine-all the Jennies used an 11-3 spurt to take a large lead. Carson-Newman tried to make a late run, scoring five straight points, but two errors sealed the win for Central Missouri.
The Jennies have one more game tonight against host school, No. 23 West Florida. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
