Jennies Volleyball Sweeps Colorado School of Mines

DENVER, Colo. (Sept. 10, 2016) - Sixth-ranked Central Missouri Volleyball won their second straight match at the Colorado Premier Challenge, defeating No. 18 Colorado School of Mines in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21. It was the fourth time in the last five matches the Jennies have played a ranked opponent, going 2-2 over that time. They move to 5-2 overall on the season.

The Jennies offense was on point again, hitting .290 for the match, committing just 13 errors on 100 attempts. Kasey Hohlen again led the team with 12 kills. Kylie Hohlen, Mackenzie Harding and Cheyanne Lyons each added seven, a season-high for Harding who also chipped in three blocks. Kourtney Thompson centered the offense with 31 assists and Katie Carlson's nine digs led the defense.

The first set was the closest of the three. The Jennies finally created some distance, benefiting from a pair of Oredigger attack errors to take an 8-5 lead. The Mines didn't quit though and came all the way back to take a two-point lead of their own, 19-17, before UCM called a time out. Out of the break, the Jens scored three straight to regain the lead. After the Mines tied things again, 22-22, the Jens got kills from Molly Lawrence and Kylie Hohlen and an ace from Kasey Hohlen to take the opening frame.

Set two started out much the same as the opener, with the teams tied up 5-5 after the first 10 points. The Jens took over from there, scoring the next seven points, including two kills from Harding. They led the rest of the way, running away with a 25-15 set win.

That momentum carried over to the third set where UCM scored the first five points. The Jens extended their lead to 10, 17-7, but the Orediggers fought back scoring six straight points, cutting the lead to 17-13. The Jens held match point at 24-15, and held off the Mines who again scored six straight with a kill from Lawrence to preserve the 25-21 win.

The Orediggers Alanna Winfield led the match with 16 kills, she also had nine digs and three blocks. Setter Marina Hansen led CSM with 30 assists.

Central Missouri concludes their trip to Denver with a match against Regis. First serve is set for 6 pm CT.
