WARRENSBURG, Mo. (June 1, 2016) – Mules Wrestling and Head Coach
Justin Ensign will be welcoming 13 new faces for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
Stephen Tujague comes to Central Missouri after attending St. James Academy, where he placed all four years at the Kansas State Championships. Tujague was a state champion and was named to the All-Metro team twice in his time at St. James. He also helped his team to a state championship in 2014 and, runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2015. Tujague is the brother of current Mules wrestler
Andrew Tujague, and is expected to compete at either 133 or 141 pounds. He plans on majoring in business at UCM.
Kaleb Brooks joins the team after a successful career at Olathe North High School. Brooks was a Sunflower League and regional runner-up. He helped his team in placing three times at the state tournament, as well as winning the regional crown three times and winning the Sunflower League all four years. Brooks also played football at Olathe North where he helped his team win multiple league, regional and sectional titles. Brooks will be wrestling at 157 pounds, and plans on majoring in exercise science when school begins in the fall.
Tanner Gipson comes to UCM from Katy High School in Katy, Texas. He was a district champion and placed fifth at the state tournament while helping his team to district and regional titles during his senior season. He also earned three letters in his high school career. Gipson plans on majoring in secondary education at Central Missouri, and will be wrestling at either 174 or 184 in the upcoming season.
Dominique Hampton joins the team after competing at Raytown Senior High School in Raytown, Missouri. Hampton won the Class 4 State and District Championships at 220 pounds, along with being a First Team All-Conference selection his senior season on the mat. He was also named the District 4 Wrestler of the Year this past season. Hampton also played football and competed in track and field in high school, earning numerous all-conference and all-district honors over the past two seasons. Hampton competed in the Mo-Kan All-Star Game for football and the Mo-Kan All-Star Dual for wrestling. He plans on majoring in exercise science or pre-law at UCM, and will be wrestling at either 197 or 285 pounds.
Martin Brunnert will be joining the Mules after wrestling at Wentzville Holt High School. Brunnert earned first team all-conference honors once, and helped his team to a pair of fourth place finishes at the state tournament in 2014 and 2016, and a runner-up finish in 2015, along with a district title in 2016. Brunnert is expected to compete at 184 pounds. He will be majoring in biology when he reports in the fall.
John Feeney has also committed to the Mules. The Omaha, Nebraska native was a two-time state champion, two-time district champion, conference champion and a four-year letter winner at Omaha Northwest High School. Feeney also competed in baseball, football, tennis and track in high school. He plans on majoring in psychology at Central Missouri, and will be wrestling at either 125 or 133 pounds.
Carson Meek joins the team after graduating from Rockhurst High School. The Belton, Missouri native qualified for the state tournament twice and was a national qualifier once, while lettering all four years. Meeks will be wrestling at either 133 or 141 pounds in the upcoming season. He plans on majoring in business while at UCM.
Chase Miller comes to UCM after graduating from Olathe North High School. Miller was the 6A State Champion at 285 pounds as a senior, he placed third as a junior and placed fourth as a sophomore. This past season he placed fourth at Folkstyle Nationals. Coach Ensign predicts Miller will wrestle at 285 pounds for the Mules.
Rowdy Miller transfers in after having competed at Hannibal-LaGrange University last season. Miller qualified for the NAIA National Tournament at 157 pounds as a freshman for the Trojans. Miller is a four-time member of the Georgia National team and a six-time freestyle and Greco state medalist. In 2014, Miller placed fourth at the Georgia State Championships. He also placed at regionals multiple times during his high school career. Miller will be majoring in accounting at UCM.
Also transferring in is Zach Schridde, who comes to Warrensburg by way of Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas. At Pratt, Schridde was a national qualifier and was named to the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. The Great Bend, Kansas native attended high school at Great Bend High School where he lettered three times, and also played soccer. He will be wrestling at 141 pounds in the upcoming season, and plans of majoring in mechanical engineering technology at Central Missouri.
Cody Carson, another Pratt Community College product, joins the roster after sitting out the 2015-16 season. Carson graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 2012, where he was a state runner-up as a senior. Carson was an NJCAA All-American in 2014 at Pratt. Carson will have two years of eligibility remaining at UCM, and is projected to wrestle at 174 or 184 pounds.
Braden Best of Raytown High School and Jesse Reser of Fort Osage High School signed with Central Missouri in the early signing period. Best will be competing at 184 pounds, while Reser will compete at 165 pounds when they report in the fall.
