JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Central Missouri Softball swept Lincoln Friday afternoon behind a pair of stellar pitching performances. The wins assured the Jennies a spot in next week's MIAA Championship Tournament and that they will finish above .500. The wins put UCM at 27-23 and 13-11 in the MIAA.
Game One: Central Missouri 9, Lincoln 1 - 6 innings
The Jennies got started early, scoring a run in each of the first two innings on a sacrifice fly from
Emily King and
Lauren Mabe scampered home after a passed ball.Â
Lincoln got a run back in the third on a solo home run to lead off the inning, but UCM broke it open with four runs in the fourth. After
Alexis Koop's deep fly ball to center produced a sacrifice fly,
Ali Jo Rogers launched her sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot giving UCM a 6-1 lead.
That was all Jennies starter
Allison Tonyan needed. She threw all six innings, giving up just one run on four hits with a strikeout and two walks. She upped her record to 9-7 on the season.
The Jennies added three more runs in six on Rogers RBI double and
Hailey Crabtree's two-RBI single.
Three Jennies knocked multiple hits as UCM scattered 11 hits in the game. Rogers, Crabtree and
Katie Giacone each collected two hits apiece. Rogers also scored three times, drove in four runs and swiped a pair of bases.
For the Blue Tigers, Tori Nienhueser provided the only offense with her solo home run in the third. Sarah Westhoff started and took the loss throwing 5.2 innings and allowing nine runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Game Two Central Missouri 9, Lincoln, 0 - 6 innings
Central Missouri again jumped on the Blue Tigers early, scoring two first inning runs on their way to their first shutout win since March 25. The Jennies runs came thanks to a wild pitch to score Rogers, and a two-out RBI single from
Emily Robinson.
Robinson also took the ball in the circle for the Jens and was dominant throughout. Only three times did Lincoln even have a runner reach second base as the freshman hurled her third complete game shutout of the season. She pitched all six innings giving up no runs on just four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
The Jennies piled on runs with two coming in the third and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Crabtree and
Alex Leonhart produced RBI singles in the third and Rogers, King and Leonhart all had run-scoring hits in the five-run sixth.Â
Crabtree finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. She collected five hits in the doubleheader. King and Leonhart each had two RBI and Robinson helped her cause with two hits.
Madison Ragar started for Lincoln and lasted 5.2 innings, allowing all nine runs on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked three. Avery Myers and Kiley Kerr each went 1-for-2.
The Jennies wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at Lindenwood. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
