Mules pick up seventh straight win in rout of Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (April 2, 2016) -- The Mules scored in every inning, but one and out-hit Lincoln 17-3 as they cruised to a 19-0 run-rule win in the second game of a three-game series. The Mules are now 18-8 overall and 16-3 in MIAA play.

The Mules jumped on the Blue Tigers (1-28, 0-19 MIAA) early with a pair of first inning home runs. Dylan Farrell's solo shot got UCM on the board and Derek Cornell's two-run shot made it 3-0.

UCM tacked on four more in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. Brad Jelinek had a two-run double and Jackson Schnurbusch added an RBI double as well. Travis Able scored on a double steal in the fourth to make it 8-0 and five runs in the fifth made it 13-0 in favor of the Mules. Collin Nevil delivered the big blow in that inning with his first career home run, a three-run shot.

Bennett Oliver's RBI fielder's choice in the sixth made it a 14-0 lead and the Mules put five more runs on the board in the top of the seventh for the 19-0 advantage. Every Mule who appeared in the game registered a hit.

Jesse Steinbring (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win allowing just two hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Paul McMahon tossed two innings of one-hit relief and Cory Simpson tossed a perfect seventh in his first appearance of the season.

Cody Stegemann (0-1) took the loss for Lincoln after allowing eight runs on eight hits over three innings.

The series wraps up on Sunday with a noon first pitch at the LU Baseball Field.
