Dominant Pitching Helps Jens Sweep Bearcats

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - On a day when the Jennies teamed with the Rally For Rhyan cause in honor of Rhyan Loos and pediatric cancer awareness, Central Missouri softball dominated on the field, sweeping Southwest Baptist 2-1 and 8-1. Central Missouri goes back over .500 to 25-23 for the season.

Jennies starting pitching was the story of the doubleheader as Allison Tonyan and Jordan Johnson each picked up a win and allowed one earned run.

Game One: Central Missouri 2, Southwest Baptist 1

Tonyan and Bearcat starter Kacey Ayers were matching zeroes to start the game. The Jennies finally broke through in the fourth inning, getting an RBI double from Mabe and an RBI ground out from Katie Giacone.

The Bearcats threatened in the sixth inning, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Tonyan escaped the jam allowing only a sacrifice fly.

Emily Robinson came in in the seventh and picked up her second save of the season. The real save belongs to Alex Leonhart who, with two outs, gunned down a runner at the plate with a perfect throw from left field to end the game.

Tonyan tossed the first six innings and allowed just the one run on three hits. She struck out four and walked only one. Robinson navigated her way through the seventh, allowing a hit and two walks, but her defense backed her up, giving her the save.

The Jennies knocked five hits in the game, two coming from Hailey Crabtree.

Bearcats starter Ayers threw all six innings for SBU. She allowed two runs, both unearned on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Kaley Hanson picked up two of the Bearcats four hits and scored a run

Game Two: Central Missouri 8, Southwest Baptist 1

After two scoreless innings, the Jennies scored in four straight on their way to an 8-1 win. Crabtree got things started in a three-run third with an RBI double. Emily King and Leonhart followed with RBI hits of their own, and UCM was on top 3-0.

Southwest Baptist picked up an unearned run in the fourth with an RBI single, but the Jennies tacked on with a run of their own in the fourth and two in the fifth and sixth. Robinson picked up RBI hits in the fifth and sixth innings, and Johnson and Mabe also earned RBIs.

Central Missouri's offense knocked 11 hits and also stole four bases. Mabe picked up three hits, all singles, while Robinson was 2-for-4 with a single and double.

Johnson picked up the win in the circle throwing all seven innings. She allowed just one unearned run on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

For the Bearcats, Hunter Middleton took the loss, throwing six innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) and 11 hits. She struck out two and walked two. Catlin Evans and Caitlyn Cooner each collected two hits. Cooner also drove in the Bearcats only run.

The Jennies wrap up MIAA play this weekend as they travel to Lincoln, Friday, April 22 and Lindenwood Saturday, April 23.
