TOPEKA, Kan. – Central Missouri's (20-16, 9-5 MIAA) six-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Washburn Friday afternoon. The Jennies dropped both ends of a double header, 2-1 and 4-1, collecting just two runs and eight hits in the two games.
Game One – Washburn 2, Central Missouri 1 Both teams were held scoreless through four innings before the Jennies kicked off the scoring.
Emily Robinson got the Jennies first hit, a home run to centerfield on the first pitch of the fifth to put UCM on top, 1-0.
In the circle, Robinson kept the Ichabods off the scoreboard until the sixth when Washburn tied the game on an RBI double from Taylor Zimmerman. After loading the bases with nobody out, Robinson got two outs, but a walk to Lexie Myers forced the eventual winning run to cross the plate.
The Jennies threatened in the seventh getting runners on first and second with one out, but a strikeout and a groundout squashed the comeback bid.
Robinson went the distance for the Jennies, allowing two earned runs in six innings on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. She had one of the Jennies two hits at the plate, her second home run of the season in the fifth. The loss puts her record at 8-6.
Ali Jo Rogers had the other hit for Central Missouri, and stole two bases.
Samantha Carson got the win for Washburn throwing seven innings of two-hit ball allowing one earned run with five strikeouts and three walks. Zimmerman and Myers each had two hits.
Game Two – Washburn 4, Central Missouri 1 Central Missouri couldn't overcome a three-run first inning in their 4-1 loss to Washburn. The first three batters for the Ichabods all reached base against UCM starter
Allison Tonyan, and came around to score.
The Jens scored their lone run in the third on
Emily King's fourth home run of the season. UCM got the tying run to the plate in each of the final three innings, but couldn't come up with a timely hit.
Tonyan pitched all six innings for the Jennies, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks. She moves to 6-5 on the season.
Cassidy Merriman picked up two hits in the game with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Washburn. Ashley Wells tossed seven complete innings allowing the one run on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Central Missouri concludes their six-game road trip tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Emporia, Kan. to take on Emporia State. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
