Mules rally for extra inning win in series opener at Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. (March 11, 2016) -- Jake Alexander's two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning was the difference in a 4-2 Central Missouri win at Central Oklahoma on Friday. The Mules trailed 2-0 in the game before rallying for the win.

The Bronchos (10-6, 4-3 MIAA) got on the board first with a two-run home run off the bat of Brenton Washausen in the second inning. The Mules (7-6, 6-1 MIAA) tied the game in the fourth on sacrifice flies from Bennett Oliver and Matt Safranek.

The Mules threatened in the sixth when Jake Alexander doubled with one, but he was stranded and the game remained tied. UCM threatened again in the seventh, putting a runner in scoring position with one out, but a strike out and pop up ended the threat.

The game remained tied through the ninth, but in the top of the 10th inning Alexander tripled to left field to score Matt Elliott and Dylan Farrell to put UCM in front 4-2. UCO brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom half, but a strike out and a ground out ended the game and gave the Mules their sixth straight win.

Grant Gavin (1-2) picked up the win after tossing 1.2 innings of no-hit relief. Starter Tyler House had another solid outing, going 7.1 innings and giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Lucas Williams tossed an inning of no-hit relief as well.

The series continues on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond.
