DURANT, Okla. - Central Missouri Jennies Softball (0-2) began their season this weekend in Durant, Okla. at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational. UCM dropped their first two games to a pair of 2015 NCAA Central Region opponents, 5-0 to Arkansas Tech and 6-4 to Henderson State.
Game 1 - Arkansas Tech 5, UCM 0The two teams were locked in a pitchers dual for the first five innings before the Golden Suns were able to break it open for three in the sixth. Arkansas Tech scored three in the six and two in seventh, winning 5-0.
The Jennies offense was slowed down by Morgan Vaughan who pitched a complete game shutout.
Emily Robinson got the only hit of the afternoon as the Jens struck out 13 times.
Robinson also made her debut in the circle for UCM. She went the distance allowing all five runs on seven hits while striking out eight.
Game 2 - Henderson State 6, UCM 4The Jennies got on the board early in this one, scoring in the bottom half of the first inning on a
Lauren Mabe RBI groundout.
The lead didn't last as the Reddies put up runs in the second, third and fourth innings, taking a 6-1 lead.
Central Missouri tried to rally late in the game, scoring two in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. Mabe knocked a two RBI single and
Brittany Kendall scored on a passed ball to bring UCM within two. The Jens had the tying run in scoring position in the sixth inning, but couldn't bring the runs across.
Mabe collected both hits for the Jennies and drove in all three runs.
Alexis Koop walked twice and scored a run.
Jordan Johnson started for the Jennies and threw 3.2 innings allowing six runs, three earned on 10 hits. Robinson threw 3.1 innings of hitless relief while striking out four.
The Jennies play two more tomorrow in Durant, Okla. facing off against Oklahoma Christian at 12:30 and host school Southeastern Oklahoma at 3 p.m.
