WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 9, 2016)-- The Central Missouri Mules wrestling team (2-0, 0-0 MIAA) opened its 2016-17 season with a triangular against Barton Community College and Wentworth Military Academy Wednesday night in the Multipurpose Building. The Mules defeated Barton and Wentworth 32-12 and 48-0, respectively.

In the first dual of the night, Central Missouri matched up against Barton. The Mules forfeited at 125 pounds to give the Cougars the early 6-0 lead. At 133 pounds, Stephen Tujague picked up the Mules first win with a 18-2 tech fall over Caysen Smith and cut the Cougars lead to 6-5. The Mules grabbed their first lead of the night when Bradley Irwin pinned Cody Liles in 3:42 to pick up the win at 141 pounds. The Mules never trailed the rest of the night.

At 149 pounds Howard Johnson won a 6-5 decision over Zachary Schridde to cut the Mules lead to 11-9. In the 157 pound class, Steffon Fassett won a 16-14 decision over Derek Gentry to push the Mules lead to 14-9. Josh Thomson added to that lead with pin over Lucas McMichael in 4:01 at 165 pounds. The Mules owned a 20-9 advantage.

The Cougars tried to make one last push as David Kelly picked up 7-3 decision over Allan Person at 174 pounds and cut the Mules lead to 20-12. The Mules responded and won the final three weight classes. Cody Carson won 9-3 decision over over Trent Miles at 184 pounds. At 197 pounds, Grant Sparks was victorious after pinning Ethan Dean in 2:33, and in the 285 pound class, Robert Schneider picked up 7-6 decision over Forrest Lalaguna to give the Mules the 32-12 victory.

In the second dual of the night, the Mules faced off against Wentworth. Both teams forfeited at 125 pounds to start the match scoreless. In the 133 pound class Tujague only needed the first round to pin Faifua Ipolito in 1:32. The Mules jumped out 6-0 and never looked back as they won the next remaining eight weight classes.

At 141 pounds, Irwin won his second match of the night with his second straight pin, this time over Isaiah Banks in 2:20. Schridde bounced back in his second match at 149 pounds with a pin over Bradley Loveland in 1:49 and pushed the Mules lead 18-0. At 157 pounds, Brady Franklin won 6-5 decision over Nicholas Davis in his first match of the season. In his debut at 165 pounds, Jesse Reser had the fastest pin of the night pinning Hunter Goring in 24 seconds and pushing the Mules lead to 27-0. The Mules won their next two matches by way of pins.

Thomson had the second fastest pin of the night at 41 seconds with pin over Iafeta Vou to win his second match. Carson was victorious at 184 pounds yet again with a pin over Samisone Vailahi in 2:11 and gave the Mules 39-0 lead.

In the final two weight classes, Sparks claimed a 1-0 decision over Nathaniel Tuamoheloa at 197 pounds to finish his night 2-0. In the 285 pound class, Miller won his first match as a Mule with a pin over Onosai Pule in 3:32 to give the Mules the 48-0 shutout win.

The Mules will be back in action on Sunday Nov. 13 as they host the UCM Open in the Multipurpose Building. The open begins at 10 a.m. and runs all day.
