Hohlen's 12 Kills Help UCM Volleyball To Sweep of ESU

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 4, 2016) - Make it three wins in a row now for the sixteenth ranked Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball team. They defeated Emporia State 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-20) Friday night and move to 19-8 on the season and 8-6 in the MIAA. 

The Jennies hit .248 against the Hornets with Kylie Hohlen's 12 kills leading the offense. Maddie Jones was also in double-figures with 10 kills. Hohlen hit .370 herself. Kourtney Thompson was at the center of the Jennies offense dishing out 11 assists and landing five kills. She also picked up 10 digs. Cheyanne Lyons returned to action and landed four kills on nine attempts. 

Central Missouri's defense landed eight blocks, their highest team total since Sept. 30. Both Kylie and Kasey Hohlen each had three. Carly Offerdahl corralled a game-high 20 digs.

After the Jennies took a 10-9 lead in the first set they were off and running on their way to a 25-14 set win. Central Missouri used a 5-0 run to pull ahead 14-9 after four straight Hornet attack errors. They remained in front the rest of the way and scored the final eight points of the frame. Katie Carlson ended the set with back-to-back service aces.

Kylie Hohlen landed six of her 12 kills in the second set. The Jennies took a 3-0 lead and never trailed on their way to a 25-16 win. The Hornets climbed back and got to within one at 14-13, but couldn't overtake the Jennies lead. UCM outscored Emporia 11-3 to end the set.

Central Missouri built a big lead to start the third set, only to see the Hornets chip away. UCM went up as much as nine 20-11 after a Jones kill. ESU threatened to come back pulling within five, 23-19, but Kasey Hohlen stopped a 4-0 run and Kylie Hohlen smashed her final kill to end the match.

Shayla Cotman and Josie Williams each picked up eight kills for the Hornets. Kimberly Bell and Emma Dixon each passed out 11 assists and Allie Maloney grabbed 17 digs.

The Jennies have one more match this week. They stay at home and host No. 13 Washburn Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.
