No. 4 Jennies Soccer advances to MIAA Semifinals with 4-0 shutout over Washburn

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 3, 2016)-- The fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer team started its MIAA Tournament title defense with a strong 4-0 win over the Washburn Ichabods Wednesday night at Jennies Field. The Jennies improve to 17-1 on the season and have won eight straight games.

Junior Megan Woolley scored twice, while sophomore Emily Griffin and junior Baylie Edwards scored one goal a-piece. In net, junior Ana Dilkes collected seven saves, won her 17th game, and posted her 14th shutout of the year.

The Jennies came out aggressive in the first half taking 14 shots total and limiting the Ichabods to just six, but both teams never found any offensive rhythm and went into halftime scoreless.

In the second half, the Jennies wasted little time applying pressure on offense taking four shots in the first 10 minutes. The pressure paid off in the 54th minute when Edwards scored on from the right inside of the box for her fifth goal of the year. Junior Taylor Thompson sent in a corner kick that deflected off a Washburn player and Edwards nailed the shot where it then bounced of a pair of Washburn players into the net.

Play came to a stop in the 56th minute as rain came down at the South Recreation Complex around 8:30 p.m. and lightning in the area sent both teams inside. The match was delayed for over two hours before play resumed again at 11:30 p.m.

The Jennies came out of the delay slow to start on offense, but found their groove in the 70th minute when Woolley field a pass from Edwards on the left side of the field and hit her shot from 35 yards out. Woolley's shot sailed to the far right end of the net before the goalkeeper could get a hand on it. Edwards' assist is her second of the season.

The Jennies pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 81st minute when Griffin scored her second goal of the season. She turned a pass from redshirt sophomore Jada Scott on the left side of the field near the box and hit her shot to left end of the net. Scott's assist is her sixth of the season.

As time came winding down in the match the Jennies scored one more time in the 90th minute. Junior Mikala Modiri found Woolley in the middle of the box and sent her a high shot where she nailed a header from five yards out. Wolley's two goals bumped her season total to six.

The Jennies finished the match taking 32 shots total, 15 shots on goal, and tallying three assists.

Defensively, the Jennies limited the Ichabods to just 10 total shots in the match to post their 16th shutout, which the most in a season in program history. Their previous best was 15, which they did in 2015.

The Jennies advance to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals and will host Lindenwood Friday, Nov. 4. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
