Fourth Quarter Explosion Lifts Jennies to Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2016) – Central Missouri Jennies Basketball won their fifth straight game, 67-53 Friday afternoon against Barry. The win puts the Jens at 5-1 for the season with one game remaining in Florida.

A tight game finally broke the Jennies way as they exploded in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bucs 20-7 in the frame. Ashley Duffy led three Jennies in double-figures with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Morgan Fleming and Paige Redmond each collected 15 points and Redmond grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and dished out five assists.

Nine different Jennies scored who shot 38.3% from the floor (23-for-60). The Jens held the Bucs to 35.6% (21-for-59) from the floor including 30% (6-for-20) from three. Barry won the battle on the boards, 40-38, ()

Back-to-back three pointers got the Buccaneers started in the first, racing to an 8-2 lead less than two minutes into the game. Duffy got the Jens back in, scoring 10 in the frame, all in less than a three span. The wild first 10 minutes saw six ties and eight lead changes.

Barry was able to push their lead to six, 27-21, two-and-a-half minutes into the second on a pair of free throw from Elin Ekdahl. UCM fought their way back, tying the game on an old-fashioned three point play from Sydney Skaggs and taking a two point lead, 35-33, into intermission after a jumper from Sydney Crockett.

The shots stopped falling for both teams in the third when the Bucs got back to within one, 47-46 after outscoring the Jens 13-12.

It was the fourth quarter that UCM broke out though. Duffy knocked down back-to-back field goals to give UCM their largest lead to that point, 51-46 and the Jens were on their way. With the lead still at five, UCM held the ball for 90 seconds, collecting four offensive rebounds before Redmond buried a three for an eight-point lead, 56-48. The Jennies put the game away hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes, for a 67-53 win.

Barbara Cousino led the Bucs scoring 20 points with three triples. Lauren Seyranian scored 13  and Julia Paulin grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

The Jennies have one final game in Florida against Johnson and Wales, tomorrow at 2 p.m. Barry will once again be the host site.
