MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2016) – Central Missouri wrapped up their three-game trip to the Sunshine State with a 108-45 win over Johnson and Wales. The win is the Jens sixth-straight, moving them to 6-1 on the season as they went 3-0 on the week-long trip.
Central Missouri reached 100 points for the first time in a game since Feb. 4, 2006 and scored at least 21 points in all four quarters, twice reaching the 30 point mark. UCM shot a blistering 57.6% from the field (38-66) and 53.8% from three (14-25) while holding the Wildcats to 34.8% (16-46) from the field and 1-of-7 from three. The Jennies again won the rebounding edge, 37-27 and forced Johnson and Wales into 28 turnovers, while committing only 12 themselves.
The Jennies had five reach double-figure scoring, led by
Paige Redmond with a team-best 18 points. Redmond did not miss from the floor hitting all seven shot attempts including four from beyond the arc. In addition to Redmond,
Kendra Gladbach set a career-best scoring 17 points as did
Peyton Taylor who scored 15.
Morgan Fleming scored 14 and
Megan Skaggs reached double-digits with 12.
Kayonna Lee led the Jens with eight rebounds and Fleming swiped five steals. Taylor and
Emilie Jobst dished out a game-high four assists each.
Central Missouri,shot 56% from the floor and 46% from three point land in the first half, taking a 55-28 lead at intermission. After leading by 10, 21-11, through the first period, UCM broke it open in the second, doubling up on the Wildcats, 34-17.
With 7:23 to play in the half, Johnson and Wales used a 7-0 run to close to within five, 25-20, but the Jens outscored the Wildcats 30-8 the rest of the way. A layup from Fleming brought the lead back to 10, 30-20. Fleming later capped a 12-0 run with another layup at the 4:44 mark to put the Jens up 17, 37-20. Three's from Jobst and Redmond gave UCM a 20-point cushion, 47-25, with just under two minutes to play in the half.
The second half was more of the same with UCM putting up 23 points in the third and 30 points in the fourth quarter to build their lead. Gladbach hit all four of her three-pointers in the half and scored 10 of her 17 points in the final frame.
Diamond Williams scored 20 points for the Wildcats to lead all scorers. She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Central Missouri begins MIAA play next week when they return to Missouri. The Jens travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to taking on Missouri Western Saturday, Dec. 3.
