DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 22, 2016) – Central Missouri took off in the second period, outscoring Embry-Riddle 20-4 on their way to a 67-50 win Tuesday evening in Daytona Beach. The win is the Jennies fourth straight, their longest since winning nine straight in Feb. and March of 2015, and moves them to 4-1 on the season.
Ashley Duffy scored a career-best 21 points to lead all scorers. Twenty of her 21 came in the first half as she hit 8-of-11 from the field including 4-of-6 from three. Megan
Skaggs also finished in double-figures with a career-best as well, 13 points.
Sydney Skaggs led the Jennies grabbing seven rebounds and Duffy and
Paige Redmond dished out three assists each.
Central Missouri held a 44% - to 36% advantage in shooting percentage over the Eagles. They also outrebounded Embry-Riddle 39-31 and committed three fewer turnovers.
A close first period saw the Jennies holding a four-point edge, helped out by three Duffy triples. She finished the frame five-for-eight from the floor with 13 points. She put UCM on top for good when she splashed a three at the 6:14 mark of the period, giving UCM an 11-10 lead. The Jens built that lead to six on three separate occasions before taking a four-point lead after one.
The second quarter was all Central Missouri. Two field goals apiece from Duffy and Fleming gave the Jens a double-digit lead, 31-20 with 5:27 to play in the half. The lead continued to grow and a Redmond layup with 15 seconds in the half gave UCM their largest lead of the half, 42-20. The Eagles went 0-for-11 from beyond the arc in the period and were 1-for-13 from three to end the half.
After layups from Redmond and
Megan Skaggs gave UCM their largest lead of the game, 46-22, the Eagles began mounting a comeback. They got to within 14 by the end of the third, outscoring UCM 14-8 in the period.
The lead dwindled further to 11, 53-42, after a pair of Mercedes Jorge free throws, but the Jennies offense could not be contained for long. Central Missouri went on a 12-2 run highlighted by back-to-back three from
Megan Skaggs and comfortably put the Eagles away, 67-50.
Embry Riddle was led offensively by Tara Fields who scored 10 points and was 4-for-6 from the floor. Sigrid Sandstrom scored nine and Laniere Coleman led the Eagles with five boards.
Central Missouri is back in action Friday, Nov. 25 at Barry. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. eastern, 1 p.m. Central.
