Redmond Scores 30 as Jennies Rout Bulldogs

Pittsburg, Kan. (Nov. 19, 2016) - Sophomore guard Paige Redmond dominated the first half, helping Central Missouri Basketball to an 89-55 blowout win over Ferris State. Redmond scored a career-high 30 points in the game, the first Jennie to reach 30 points since Keuna Flax in Feb. of 2014.  After going 2-0 at the Pittsburg State Classic, Central Missouri has won three games in a row and are 3-1 on the season.

The first half belonged the Redmond as she scored 28 points, including the first seven for the Jennies. She was 7-of-10 from the field, 4-for-5 from three and hit 10-of-11 free throw attempts. Redmond outscored the Bulldogs by herself, 28-27, in the opening half.

Two other Jennies finished the game with double-figure points. Ashley Duffy and Kayonna Lee each scored 13 and Lee finished one rebound shy of her second double-double. Duffy also grabbed five boards and dished out a game-high four assists.

Central Missouri shot 48.3% (29-for-60) from the floor, their highest field goal percentage of the season. They splashed 10 or more triples for the third straight game, going, 11-for-26 from beyond the arc with Redmond and Duffy accounting for seven of those 11 made threes. The Jens also limited their turnovers to 10 for the game while forcing Ferris State into 24.

Though the Bulldogs won the total rebounding battle, 34-29, each team came away with nine offensive rebounds and the Jens doubled up Ferris State on second-chance points, 14-7. UCM also scored 30 points off of those 24 Bulldog turnovers.

Ferris State held one-point leads, 1-0 and 3-2 at the outset, but Redmond knocked down her second pair of free throws at the 7:59 mark of the first quarter and UCM never trailed again. Central Missouri built their lead to nine in the first quarter, only to see the Bulldogs make it a two-possession game, 22-16 after the first 10 minutes.

Second periods have not been kind to Central Missouri early in the season, but this was a new day. UCM finished 7-for-15 from the floor in the period while the Bulldogs didn't make a single field goal. Redmond scored 14 for the second-straight quarter, and the Jennies' six-point lead was 19 at the half, outscoring Ferris State 27-11 in the frame. In the final 30 seconds, Duffy nailed a corner three and Redmond went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe with no time left on the clock to bring the half to a close, 46-27.

Lee gave the Jennies their first 20-point lead of the game out of the break, sinking a pair of free throws, but a 7-0 Ferris State run helped the Bulldogs bring the lead down to 14, 59-45. Ferris State could only cut one point into the Jennies lead after three quarters as Sydney Skaggs collected an offensive rebound and finished the quarter with a putback.

A layup from Fleming with eight minutes to play have UCM their 20-point lead back and the rout was on. Redmond reached the 30-point mark with a layup, and a three from Kendra Gladbach gave the Jens a 31-point lead. Emilie Jobst connected for the Jennies 11th and final three-point field goal, to bring us our final score, 89-55.

Rachel McInerney led the Bulldogs collecting a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Central Missouri will take off Monday for the Sunshine State. They play three games in Florida over Thanksgiving week. First up is Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT.
