PITTSBURG, Kan. (Oct. 29, 2016) - No. 15 Central Missouri Volleyball got back in the win column with a 3-1 win over Pittsburg State (25-17, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20). The win pushes UCM back over .500 in the MIAA at 7-6 and 17-8 overall.
The Jennies offense hit nearly .300 for the match, coming away with 55 total kills.
Kasey Hohlen was responsible for much of the offense with a game-high tying 13 kills.
Kourtney Thompson added nine kills and 38 assists.
Mackenzie Harding was also in double-figure kills with 10. Defensively
Carly Offerdahl led UCM with 18 digs.
Kylie Hohlen added 16 to go along with nine kills. Harding and
Maddie Jones each put back two blocks.
A close first set saw the Jennies pull away late. With the set even at 10-10, the Jennies went ahead on a Gorilla service error, then took their largest lead of the set, 14-11 after a Hohlen kill and PSU attack error. The Gorillas back to within one, 14-13, but the Jennies outscored the Gorillas 11-4 to end the set.
Pitt State led for much of the second set, jumping out by as much as eight, 18-10. The Jennies mounted a comeback, and got all the way to within one, 19-18 after an 8-1 run, but couldn't get any closer. The Gorillas scored the final four points of the set, winning 25-20.
Much like set one, the Jens pulled away late to regain a 2-1 lead in the match. With the score tied at 13, UCM close out on a 12-4 run, getting three straight kills from Harding at one point and ending on a Hohlen kill.
The Jennies put the match away leading end to end in the fourth. They raced to a 7-2 lead and never looked back, on their way to a 25-20 set win. PSU got back to within one, 19-18, but the Jennies held off the rally getting kills from Jones and
Kasey Hohlen in the final points.
Pitt State was led by Lauren Regier with 13 kills. Carolina VanBuskirk helped with 39 assists and Ashley Schwartz corralled a game-high 20 digs.
The Jennies conclude this road trip with a Tuesday evening non conference game against William Jewell on the first of November. First serve from Liberty is at 7 p.m.
