EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 28, 2016) - In another AVCA top-25 battle, the No. 15 Jennies fell 3-0 to No. 9 Central Oklahoma (23-25, 18-25, 19-25). The loss puts UCM at 16-8 for the season and evens their conference record at 6-6. These two teams met in the first MIAA matchup of the season, with UCM sweeping the Bronchos 3-0 in Warrensburg.
It was the Jennies fourth loss to a top-10 team this season. The Jens hit just .168 for the match while the Bronchos hit for a .275 attack percentage. UCO also landed 10 blocks to the Jennies one. Neither team did well at the service line with the Bronchos committing 10 service errors and the Jennies six.
Maddie Jones was the only Jennie with double-figure kills, landing 12.
Kylie Hohlen finished with nine kills and 12 digs.
Molly Lawrence chipped in with seven kills.
Kourtney Thompson helped out the offense with 32 assists. Defensively,
Carly Offerdahl picked up a game-high tying 16 digs.
Central Oklahoma led from end-to-end in the first set. They raced out taking a seven-point lead, 9-2. The Jennies fought back and cut the lead to one, 17-16. UCO used a 5-2 run to get a bit of a cushion at 22-18, but the Jennies again fought back. At set point, 24-21, the Jens got kills from Lawrence and
Kylie Hohlen to again get within one, 24-23, but UCO ended the rally with a kill to go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set was a wild back-and-forth affair at the start before the Bronchos put the set away late. The frame saw 13 different ties along with five lead changes. Neither team held more than a one point lead, and after 20 points, the score was tied at 10-10. The Jennies took the first two-point lead in the set, 13-11, but a 4-1 run gave the Bronchos a two-point lead of their own, 16-14. UCO ran away from there, outscoring the Jennies 9-4 to close the set 25-18.
The Bronchos again led for the entirety of set three. They jumped out to an early 7-3 lead, before a 4-1 Jens run got UCM within one, 8-7. Ahead by just two, 12-10, the Bronchos scored four straight points to take a six-point lead, 16-10 and were able to put UCM away, 25-19.
Taylor Bevis led the UCO offense with 12 kills while Alexis Washington added 10. Bevis also added nine digs and three blocks. Setter Katy Davis led UCO with 37 assists while Dominique Lipari picked up 16 digs.
The Jennies have one more match this weekend at Pittsburg State. The two teams met in Warrensburg in September, with the Jennies coming away with a 3-0 win. First serve is set for 3 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kan.
