SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The
No. 7-ranked Jennies Soccer team defeated Augustana 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to go 2-0 on the season's opening weekend.
UCM had shots in the 12th and 15th minutes but came away without a goal. Senior forward
Julie Ireland hit the back of the net in the 23rd minute for UCM's first goal of the game and her first goal of the season.
Augustana's first shot came in the 27th minute, which resulted in a save by sophomore goalkeeper
Ana Dilkes. Augustana had three more shots over the next nine minutes but came away without a goal.

Mikala Modiri extended the Jennies lead to 2-0 in the final seconds of the first half with her second goal of the year.
Augustana came out firing in the second half with two shots in the first minute of play. However, they were once again not able to come away with a goal.
UCM and Augustana traded shots over the next 37 minutes until Augustana was able to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 82nd minute. Augustana was able to get off four shots in the final five minutes but could not come up with an equalizer. Their final shot came with 23 seconds remaining but it hit off of the crossbar.
The Jennies improve to 2-0 with the victory, while Augustana falls to 1-1.
Augustana outshot UCM 20-12.
The Jennies are in action next in their home opener against the University of Mary on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the South Rec Complex.
