No. 1 Jennies Shutout Washburn 1-0

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The No. 1 ranked Jennies once again held their opponent scoreless as they shutout Washburn 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Jens had the first shot of the game in the second minute of action, but forward Julie Ireland's shot sailed over the goal to keep the game scoreless.

Washburn had their first and only shot of the game in the seventh minute, however the shot went to the left of the goal which kept the game tied at zero.

The Jennies were able to put pressure on Washburn in the 67th minute when the Jens put up three shots in a matter of seconds, but a save from the goalkeeper and two blocks from the Ichabod defensive line kept the game scoreless.

UCM scored the games only goal in the 74th minute when Abby Rhodes beat two defenders, then passed the ball to Jada Scott, who then found Ireland with a cross who then found the back of the net to give the Jennies a 1-0 lead. The goal was Ireland's eighth of the season.

The Jennies outshot the Ichabods 25-1.

Ana Dilkes played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jens and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

The victory improves UCM's record to 8-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the MIAA, while Washburn falls to 2-4-2 overall, and 1-1-0 in MIAA play.

The Jennies are back in action Friday afternoon as they travel to Nebraska-Kearney for their first road MIAA game. The action starts at 1 p.m.
