Season StatsRUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Jennies volleyball won their third straight game at the MIAA/GAC regional crossover and sixth straight overall, defeating Southern Nazarene three sets to none (25-21, 25-13, 25-18). The win puts the Jennies at 12-1 to start the season with conference play beginning next week.
Kourtney Thompson filled out the stat sheet for the Jennies. She handed out 32 assists and finished one kill shy of a double-double. She also dug out six attacks and put back two blocks.
Carly Sojka led the Jennies with 14 kills while
Maddie Jones added 11 and
Kylie Hohlen and
Cheyanne Lyons chipped in with five kills each. Defensively,
Kylie Hohlen was the team leader with 15 digs and
Annie Reilly was one behind her at 14.
As a team, the Jens hit .327, their seventh time this season hitting better than .300 for a match. Thompson led the way hitting .750 with her nine kills coming on 12 attacks with no errors.
The first set was a wild affair, with both teams fighting to gain the early edge. Trailing 8-4 at the outset, the Jennies climbed back and took an 11-10 lead. That lead didn't last long though, as the Crimson Storm went back on top, first 14-11, and later 18-16. After a Jennies timeout, UCM tied the set at 20-all. SNU landed a kill to go back on top, but the Jens scored the final five points to capture the first set, 25-21.
UCM wasted no time in the second stanza, getting out to an 8-2 lead. SNU got no closer than within five points the rest of the way as the Jennies eased their way to a 25-13 set win to go up 2-0 in the match. Sojka and Hohlen both landed four kills in the set.
The Jennies had to come from behind in the third set, but proved to be up to the task. SNU went up 12-9 but the Jens came back to tie at 12-all. A Crimson Storm attack error gave the Jennies their first lead of the set, 14-13 and the Jens never trailed again. After SNU tied it back at 14, UCM went on a 6-1 run to open their largest lead at 20-15. From there the Jennies were on their way to a 25-18 win.
UCM is back in action next Sept. 25 as the MIAA portion of the schedule begins. They hit the road to take on Central Oklahoma Friday and Pittsburg State Saturday, Sept. 26.
Following the tournament, Sojka and Reilly were named to the All-Tournament Team.
