Jones Sets Career-High 20 Kills as Jens fall to Central Oklahoma

Box Score | Season Stats

EDMOND, Okla. - Maddie Jones set a career high with 20 kills but it wasn't enough as the No. 6 Jennies volleyball fell to No. 18 Central Oklahoma in their MIAA opener three sets to one (19-25, 24-26, 25-18, 16-25). The loss snaps the Jennies six-match winning streak and is just their second this season, as their record now stands at 12-2, 0-1 MIAA.

Jones' 20 kills bettered her previous high of 19 set last season against Emporia State. She also hit an efficient .348 for the match, committing just four attack errors. In addition to Jones, Kasey Hohlen (13) and Carly Sojka (12) hit for double-digit kills. Sojka recorded her fifth double-double of the season by also digging out 13 opponent attacks. Kourtney Thompson also registered a double-double leading the Jens with 44 assists and also had 13 digs.

In total, five Jennies recorded double-figure kills with Annie Reilly's 34 leading the way. The 34 ties a career-high set earlier this season. The Jens 88 total digs are also a team-best in 2015.

The opening frame was tight, with the Jennies holding onto a 12-11 lead. UCO then went on a 7-1 run, going up 18-13 and never looked back as they took the first set, 25-19.

The Jennies twice mounted late comebacks in the second set, but couldn't overcome the Bronchos. UCO took a 16-13 lead, but the Jens stormed back with four points, thanks in part to three straight kills from Sojka, going back on top 17-16. The Bronchos countered, and had the Jennies on the ropes at 23-20. UCM again fought back, tying the match at 23-all, but the Bronchos were able to put them away in extra points, 26-24.

Set number three saw the Bronchos take an 11-9 lead, before the Jennies responded with a 9-4 to go on top and get back into the match with a 25-18 win. Ka. Hohlen had a set-high five kills along with a solo block.

However, the Jennies couldn't capitalize on their momentum from the previous set. UCM took a small lead at the outset of set No. 4, 7-3, but UCO fought back for a 25-16 set and match win.

The Jennies remain on the road tomorrow afternoon as they battle Pittsburg State. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
