ST. CHARLES, Mo. --
The Mules opened their final MIAA series of the regular season with a doubleheader split at Lindenwood on Friday afternoon. The Mules won the opener 13-4 before dropping game two 4-3. With the split, the Mules are now 28-18 overall and 23-11 in MIAA play.

UCM jumped on top early in game one, scoring five runs in the first inning and two more in the second to claim a 7-0 lead. Tony Sandifer had an RBI double in the first to get things started. Miles Orscheln added a two-run single and Colton Hilbrenner had a two-run double in the first. In the second, Trevor Jones was hit by a pitch and scored on an LWU error and Sandifer added another RBI single.

The Mules tacked on three more in the fourth with an RBI single from Derek Cornell, an RBI triple by Bennett Oliver and an RBI groundout from Orscheln. Orscheln drove in his fourth run of the game, a career-high, in the sixth to give UCM an 11-0 lead.

The Lions (24-23, 14-16 MIAA) got a run back in the sixth with an unearned tally, but Cornell's two-run double in the seventh gave Central Missouri a 13-1 lead. Lindenwood scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't near enough as the Mules cruised to the game one win.

Jake Heissler (5-1) earned the win for UCM after allowing four runs, only two earned, on six hits in 6.2 innings. He walked three and struck out six. Austin Klein (2-6) took the loss for the Lions after giving up 10 runs, seven earned, on nine hits in four innings of work.

The Lions took the early lead in game two with a pair of first inning runs. They added another run in the third on Ryan Light's RBI double to lead 3-0. Jackson Schnurbusch's RBI groundout in the fifth pulled UCM to within 3-1, but Wade Rothermich's RBI double in the bottom half gave the Lions a 4-1 lead.

The Mules made a late rally, scoring two runs on Hilbrenner's double in the top of the seventh to pull within 4-3, but they couldn't push the tying run across and dropped game two.

Lucas Williams (5-3) took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits over six innings of work. He struck out five and walked four. Dylan Terrell (4-1) earned the win for LWU allowing three runs on five hits in 6.2 innings. Connor Law recorded the final out of the game to earn his second save of the season.

The series continues on Saturday with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
