Jennies Soccer defeats Washburn to advance to MIAA Semifinals

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The No. 9 Jennies Soccer team defeated Washburn 2-1 Wednesday evening in an MIAA Quarterfinal matchup.

The Jens recorded the first shot of the game 28 seconds in on a shot from Abby Rhodes, but a save from the Washburn goalkeeper kept the game scoreless.

The Jennies got on the board first in the 15th minute when Megan Woolley received a pass from Hannah Pyle and found the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season. Pyle's assist was her fifth of the year.

Central Missouri scored again in the 26th minute when Abby Rhodes crossed the ball to Jada Scott who put the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to give the Jens a 2-0 lead. The goal was Scott's ninth of the year, and Rhodes' assist was her sixth on the season.

Washburn cut the lead to 2-1 in the 63rd minute when Bailey Wobig found the back of the net while goalkeeper Ana Dilkes was trying to recover from a save she had just made.

The Jennies did not allow any more shots on goal after Washburn scored and held on for a 2-1 victory. The Jennies outshot the Ichabods 21-4.

Dilkes played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed just one goal while recording three saves.

With the win, the Jennies improve to 17-2-0 and will advance to host Fort Hays State in the MIAA Semifinals Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Jennies Field. Washburn falls to 5-9-5 with the loss.
