No. 9 Jennies Soccer gets back to winning ways with victory over Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The No. 9 Jennies soccer team got back into the win column Friday evening with a 1-0 shutout over Missouri Southern.

The first shot of the night came from UCM's Hannah Pyle in the fourth minute, but her header went over the goal and kept the game scoreless.

The Lions had their first chance to score in the seventh minute, but a save from goalkeeper Ana Dilkes kept the teams tied at zero.

Mikala Modiri scored the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Kayla Hamner made an assist on the play. The goal was Modiri's sixth of the year, and the assist was Hamner's third.

The Jens had a chance to add to their lead early in the second half when they had three shots in just over a minute. However, they could not find the back of the net on any of their attempts.

Dilkes played all 90 minutes in goal for UCM and recorded six saves. Her six saves moved the sophomore goalkeeper into fifth on the Jennies All-Time saves list.

The Jens outshot the Lions 20-13.

The win moves the Jennies to 10-1 overall, and 4-1 in the MIAA. Missouri Southern falls to 2-9 overall, and 0-5 in the MIAA.

The Jennies are back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. as they travel to Bolivar, Missouri to play Southwest Baptist in another MIAA showdown.
