No. 1 Jennies Soccer falls on the road at Fort Hays State 2-1

HAYS, Kan. -- The No. 1 Jennies dropped their first game of the season in a 2-1 loss to Fort Hays State, Sunday afternoon.

The Jennies had the first shot of the game in the fifth minute, but the shot from midfielder Megan Woolley sailed over the goal. The Tigers answered back in the seventh minute with their first shot of the game, but a save from goalkeeper Ana Dilkes kept the game scoreless.

Both defensive lines limited scoring opportunities for their opponents, as both teams combined for seven shots total in in the first half. The game remained tied at zero at halftime.

Fort Hays State scored the first goal of the game in the 48th minute to put the Tigers out in front 1-0.

The Jens answered back in the 70th minute when Woolley found the back of the net off of an assist from defender Abby Rhodes to tie the game at one. The goal was Woolley's eighth of the season, and Rhodes' fourth assist of the season.

The Tigers retook the lead on a goal in the 72nd minute.

The Jennies were able to get five shots off after Fort Hays State retook the lead, including a shot in the final seconds by forward Julie Ireland, but the shot sailed over the goal and the score remained 2-1.

Ana Dilkes once again played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jennies. She recorded two saves and allowed two goals.

The loss snapped a 34-game regular season undefeated streak that dated back to October 15, 2013.

The Jennies outshot Fort Hays State 16-8.

The loss drops UCM to 9-1-0 overall, and 3-1-0 in MIAA play, while Fort Hays State improves to 6-4-0 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA.

The Jens are back in action October 8 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Joplin, Missouri to face Missouri Southern (2-7-0, 0-3-0 MIAA).
