No. 15 Jennies Sweep No. 12 Central Oklahoma

Box Score | Season Stats

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The No. 15 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team swept No. 12 Central Oklahoma, avenging an earlier season loss to the Bronchos. The Jennies won by set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-19 and move to 21-4 on the season and 9-3 in the MIAA.

Carly Sojka and Maddie Jones led the Jennies offense with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. UCM's offense hit .243 for the match while the defense held the Bronchos to just a .153 attack percentage. Kylie Hohlen and Annie Reilly led the defensive effort with 22 digs apiece and Kourtney Thompson centered the UCM offense with 38 assists.

The Bronchos led for most of the early going in the opening frame. The Jennies didn't take their first lead of the set until an attack error put UCM up 21-20. Central Missouri had trailed by as many as four in the match on multiple occasions. After UCM took the lead, they didn't give it back up, ending the set on a kill from Jones at 25-23.

UCM kept their momentum going in the second set. They went up by as many as eight midway through the set, 18-10. The Bronchos didn't go quietly though, bring the set to one, 22-21 with an 11-3 run. That was as close as they came though and Sojka's fifth kill of the set put the Jens up 2-0 in the match.

The script was the same in the third set as UCM stormed out to a lead only to see UCO chip away. Ahead by a set-high five, 15-10, the Bronchos used an 8-3 run to tie the set at 18-all. From there the Jennies outscored UCO 6-1 on their way to a 25-19 set three match clinching win. Jones had five kills in the match while Thompson passed out 13 assists.

The win is the Jennies second over a ranked opponent this season, also defeating Nebraska-Kearney, 3-1 on Oct. 3.

UCM is back in action tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. first serve against Pittsburg State. Those who arrive in costume will receive free admission, and kids will have the chance to trick or treat with the Jennies following the match.
