Photo GalleryWARRENSBURG, Mo. - Central Missouri's 15th ranked volleyball team completed the weekend with a sweep of Pittsburg State (25-10, 25-20, 25-18). The sweep is their second in as many day, after defeating No. 12 Central Oklahoma 3-0 last night.
Offensively, the Jennies hit over .300 for the match, connecting for a .327 attack percentage.
Kasey Hohlen (11) and
Maddie Jones (10) led the team in kills while
Annie Reilly and
Carly Sojka each totaled three service aces. Reilly also led the team with 13 digs and
Kourtney Thompson handed out a team-high 34 assists.
UCM got on the board early, taking the opening set 25-10 in a one-sided contest. Trailing 2-1, the Jens went on a 13-2 run to open up a 10-point lead. Pittsburg State couldn't catch up and UCM took a 1-0 lead in the match. Hohlen landed four of her 11 kills in the set and Reilly had a pair of service aces.
Set No. 2 was much more closely contested, but the Jennies were able to hold a lead throughout. After UCM went up by as many as seven, 17-10, PSU fought back to get to within two, 22-20. The Jennies scored the final three points of the set, getting kills from Hohlen and Jones and an ace from Reilly to close out the frame.
The Gorillas and Jennies again went back and forth for most of the third set, but it was UCM who was able to pull it out, thanks to a 9-3 run down the stretch. Up by just one, 16-15, the Jennies used a pair of
Kylie Hohlen kills and a
Katie Carlson service ace to spark a run and finish off the sweep.
The Jennies hit the road next week to take on Emporia State and No. 10 Washburn Friday and Saturday, November 6-7.
