Season StatsHays, Kan. - No. 12 Central Missouri Volleyball won their fourth straight game and 20th of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Fort Hays State. UCM needed 32 points to win the first set, 32-30 before taking the final two sets 25-14, 25-19. They're now 20-3 this season and 8-2 in the MIAA.
The Jennies totaled 51 kills, tying their highest in a three-set match this season. UCM also landed 51 kills in their first match with FHSU back on Oct. 2.
Carly Sojka led the offense with 13 kills. She now has 1491 kills in her career and has moved into the top-10 all time at UCM.
Maddie Jones also finished in double-figures with 11 kills while
Kourtney Thompson was one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 37 assists.
Annie Reilly was the defensive leader with 25 digs. UCM also put back seven blocks.
Kasey Hohlen led the team with four.
The 32-point first set was their most points in a set win since Oct. 12, 2007, when sets were still played to 30 points. The two teams went back and forth the entire way with 24 ties and nine lead changes. The Jens had a chance to finish the set first, up 24-22, but the Tigers scored two to re-tie the match. The match went that way until
Kylie Hohlen put the Jens up 31-30 win a kill and
Kasey Hohlen landed her first service ace of the season to punch the Jennies win.
Set two started out similar, with UCM hanging onto a one-point lead at 12-11. That's when the floodgates opened and the Jennies scored 10 straight points on their way to a 25-14 win.
Shelby Winkelmann served for nine of those points and smashed a pair of aces.
The Jennies went on another run at the outset of the third set, using a 6-0 spurt to jump on top of Fort Hays 7-3. The Tigers cut the lead to two on a few occasions, but didn't get closer and the Jens went on to sweep the match with a 25-19 win.
UCM has one more match this weekend when they head to Kearney, Neb. for a rematch with Nebraska-Kearney. The Jens defeated the Lopers 3-1 in Warrensburg earlier in the month. First serve tomorrow is night is 7 p.m.
