Warrensburg, Mo. – No. 14 Central Missouri (6-5, 3-0 MIAA) won their first home match of the season against Pittsburg State(4-7, 1-2 MIAA) on Saturday afternoon, 25-15, 25-5, 25-19. The Jennies hit .405 in the match, and had 13 aces served.The Jens scored five to start set one. Pittsburg State caught up quickly, with five consecutive points of their own. Central Missouri had another set of five points after the Gorillas caught them at 11-11, to take a 16-11 lead. The scored their third set of five points to take the first set at 25-15.
Central Missouri allowed only five points in the second set, starting with 16 consecutive points earned. Â
Annie Reilly started serving for the Jennies and had six aces in the streak. Pittsburg State scored one point before the Jennies earned four more points, to take a 20-1 lead in the set. The final point of the set came from a kill by
Jessica McDougald.
The final was the closest set of the match. Neither team had more than a two point lead through the first half of the set. The Jennies were able to score six of eight points after the Gorillas tied things up at 11-11, to take the lead for the remainder of the match.
Carly Sojka had a team high 13 kills, with two aces and a blocks in the match.
Haley Thompson was one kill behind her, with 12 kills, and hit .579 in the match. H. Thompson also had two blocks and an ace.
Becca Blaise had seven kills, an ace and two blocks.
Kourtney Thompson tallied 26 assists and six kills.
Maddie Jones had five kills. Reilly finished the match with a career-high eight serving aces, she also had nine digs in the match. The eight aces tied the UCM single-game record held by Corrie Paul and Mona Davis.
The Jennies will play at home again on Tuesday, with a match against Lindenwood. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be played in the UCM Multipurpose Building.
