Wildcats finish Jennies season at Central Regional

No. 16-ranked Jennies volleyball finishes their season at 22-9 overall, after a four set loss to No. 6 Wayne State (Neb.) on Thursday, 25-17, 24-26, 14-25, 22-25. The Jennies hit .180 through the match, with 10 blocks and four aces. The Jennies captured the first set, but the Wildcats (27-6) rebounded to win the remaining three sets and take the match.
 
Carly Sojka led the Jennies attack, racking up 10 kills in the first set alone. She finished the match with 17 kills, and 12 digs for her 16th double-double this season. Kourtney Thompson also had her 16th double-double, with 34 assists and 12 digs. K. Thompson and Sojka had three blocks a piece. Lauren Dudgeon finished with the best hitting percentage at .381 with nine kills and a block. Maddie Jones hit .296 with eight kills and eight blocks in the match. Haley Thompson had seven kills and two blocks. Shelby Winkelmann had 16 digs, and Becca Blaise had a team-high 29 digs. Annie Reilly had three aces and 21 digs.

The Jennies fell behind 5-2 early in set one, but rallied to tie the set at 9-all after scoring five straight points. UCM went ahead for good at 18-16 on kills by Dudgeon and Jones. A service error pulled WSC to within 18-17, but the Jens scored the final seven points of the match to take a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats jumped out to another early lead in set two only to see the Jennies rally. Four straight points by Central Missouri made it an 18-17 game in favor of Wayne State. The Wildcats scored three straight points to take a 21-17 lead, but the Jens rallied with four in a row to tie the set at 21-all. Wayne State went back in front 24-21 only to see UCM score three straight to tie things up at 24-24. Back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Gebhardt gave the Wildats a 26-24 win and evened the match at one set apiece.

Wayne State took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-14 win in set three. The Wildcats used a 4-0 run to take an 11-6 lead and three different 2-0 spurts led to a 19-13 lead. A kill by Sojka pulled UCM within 19-14, but WSC scored the final six points for the set win.

Wayne State used runs of 4-0, 5-0, 2-0 and 4-0 to take an 18-7 lead in set four, but the Jennies wouldn't go quietly. UCM used runs of 3-0 and 6-0 to pull within 23-20 and eventually got within 24-22, but a kill by Gebhardt ended the set and the match in favor of the Wildcats.
