WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Trailing at halftime for just the second time this season, the No. 10 Jennies scored four unanswered goals in the second half to top Missouri Southern, 4-1 at the South Recreation Complex on Friday night.
The Lions struck first in the 39th minute when Casey Vitale scored off a rebound in front of the Jennies' (10-0-1, 7-0-0 MIAA) net.
After trailing 1-0 at halftime, UCM evened the score when an own-goal by the Lions gave the Jennies their first goal of the evening.
Freshman
Mikala Modiri scored the first of her two goals in the 56th minute on a shot from 30 yards out from the right side that bounced off the post and richoted into the net.
Fellow freshman
Baylie Edwards provided the Jennies with a 3-1 lead in minute number 70, firing a shot over the goalkeeper's head from about 35 yards out along the right side.
Modiri's fifth goal of the season came in the 82nd minute, when she received her own rebound and snuck the ball past the keeper from the right.
The Jennies outshot the Lions, 19-4, including an 8-0 tally in the game's second half. Freshman goalkeeper
Ana Dilkes (10-0-1) got the victory, saving one shot.
UCM improved its overall record against Missouri Southern to 18-8-2, avenging its loss at home last season.
The Jennies will conclude their four-game homestand with a 1 p.m. first kick against Southwest Baptist on Sunday.
