WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- No. 12 Jennies soccer (15-1-4) defeated Northeastern State (13-5-1) 1-0 Friday afternoon in the MIAA Tournament semifinals. With the win, the Jennies advance to the MIAA Tournament championship match Sunday at 1 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies scored quick as just 13 minutes into the match
Carly Stanley hammered a free kick from
Jenna Stones into the center of the net, giving the Jens the 1-0 lead. It marked Stanley's fourth goal of the year and Stones' fourth assist.
Stanley's goal held up the final 77 minutes thanks to a stellar defensive effort from the Jens and goalkeeper
Morgan Hartzler.
The RiverHawks edged the Jennies in overall shots taken in the match, 5-4, and both teams took one corner kick.
Hartzler saved three shots in-goal, two of them coming in the second half, and claimed her seventh shutout, improving her overall record to 8-0-2.
The Jennies will face Fort Hays State in Sunday's championship match. The Tigers defeated Central Oklahoma 2-1 in double-overtime Friday night.
