WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Twelfth ranked Jennies soccer (14-1-3, 10-0-2 MIAA) clinched their third consecutive MIAA Regular Season Title and the fifth title in the last six seasons with a convincing 4-0 shutout win over Lindenwood (5-10-1, 1-10-0 MIAA) Saturday night at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies scored the first goal of the match in the 28th minutes when
Aaryn Burke controlled a cross pass from
Carly Stanley and hammered it into the back of the net to give the Jennies the 1-0 lead. It marked Burke's second goal of the season and Stanley's third assist.
Alexis Robbers provided the second goal for the Jens in the 47th minute, heading home a
Kayla Shain corner kick, making it 2-0. The assist from Shain made her the all-time career assist leader at Central Missouri with 23, passing the 22 previously set by Teleshia Joseph from 2001-2003. The header from Robbers was her team-high ninth goal and it was Shain's team-high fifth assist.
The Jennies got another goal in the 71st minute when
Becky Lackey sent a long cross to a waiting
Nicki Wisnasky, who volleyed it home, making it 3-0. It marked Wisnasky's second goal of 2012 and Lackey's third assist.
The Jens added a fourth goal just seven minutes later when
Julie Ireland sent a cross to
Kourtney Frank who fired the ball into an open net for the 4-0 lead. The goal was Frank's first and it was Ireland's second assist of the season.
Central Missouri dominated the match, out-shooting Lindenwood 15-4. Jennies goalkeeper
Morgan Hartzler picked up her sixth straight save in-net, improving her overall record to 7-0-1.
The match was the final regular season match for Jennies seniors
Aaryn Burke,
Audrey Copenhaver,
Kourtney Frank,
Kelsie Hanson,
Kayla Shain and
Jenna Stones.
Central Missouri has clinched the top seed in the MIAA Tournament and will host an opening round match against eighth seed Southwest Baptist Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex.
