2012 • Junior: Named an All-MIAA Second Team selection, earning her third All-MIAA award in as many seasons with the Jennies ... Earned three MIAA Player of the Week awards ... Averaged 10.49 assists per set on the year, second-most in the MIAA ... Ranked 27th in Division II in assists per set ... Recorded 11 double-doubles, including a stretch of three straight matches with ten or more digs and 30 or more assists ... Collected 50 or more assists twice in the first two weeks of the season, with 50 assists against Tampa on Sept. 1, and a season-high 56 assists against Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 8 ... 2011 • Sophomore: Bates earned her second AVCA All-American honor in as many seasons, this time as a First Team selection … Also named to the AVCA All-South Central Region Team for the second straight year, and the Daktronics All-Region Team for the first time … Named to the All-MIAA First Team after helping to lead the Jennies to their third straight MIAA title … Bates averaged 11.47 assists per set, the eighth-highest average in the nation and tops in the MIAA … Four-time MIAA Player of the Week … In the MIAA championship-clinching match, Bates posted a double-double against #4 Washburn, recording 44 assists and 10 digs … Posted two more double-doubles on the year, in a pair of defeats to #5 Washburn (45 assists, 12 digs) and #3 Tampa (51 assists, 14 digs) … The 14 digs against Tampa set a new career high … Bates also set a career high with five total blocks against Northwest Missouri … Recorded at least 30 assists in 17 consecutive matches (Oct. 5-Nov. 19) … Averaged 11.31 assists per set during the South Central Regional, earning her second NCAA South Central Regional All-Tournament Team honor … Earned a spot on the MIAA Scholar-Athlete list for the second straight year.
2010 • Redshirt Freshman: An AVCA All-America Second Team selection … Also named to the AVCA All-South Central Region Team … Earned All-MIAA Second Team honors … Named to the NCAA South Central Regional All-Tournament Team by averaging 11.3 assists and 2.1 digs per set, guiding the Jennies to their first regional championship in 14 years … She played in all 37 matches finishing with 1,324 assists, an average of over 11 per match (11.13), second most in the MIAA … Dished out a single-match season-high 60 helpers in four sets against the 2009 regional champion West Texas A&M … Voted as the Jens’ “Most Improved Player” … Bates was also rewarded for her work in the classroom as an MIAA Scholar-Athlete award winner.
2009 • Freshman: Redshirted
In High School: A two-time all-state performer for head coach Julie Slater at Lansing High School, she led her team to Sub-State titles as a junior and senior … As a junior she helped them to a fourth place finish in the state, and as a senior they were a state tournament participant earning all-tournament team honors both years … Bates earned four letters, all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008, and all-metro honorable mention accolades in her career … She also participated in the Mo-Kan All-Star Game.
