Melissa Angel joins the Jennies staff as a volunteer assistant coach after serving as an assistant coach at East Los Angeles College (CA) for seven seasons. While at ELAC, she worked with pitchers and catchers, game management and recruiting. Since 2016, Angel has been an adjunct professor in the Kinesiology department.

Angel, a former Long Beach City College standout, compiled a record of 241-176-2 in nine seasons as head coach after being an assistant for the Vikings the previous four years leading them to three playoff appearances including the 2008 State Championships.

Along with her 20 years of coaching at the collegiate level, she has been a head coach for the USA Athletics travel ball organization coaching two years with the Gold 16u team and a season with the 12u squad.

As a player, Angel was a two-time All-South Coast Conference catcher for LBCC during the 1996 and 1997 seasons and was named to the All-State Tournament team her sophomore year helping the Vikings to a fourth-place finish.

Following LBCC, she played her final two seasons at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville before becoming a graduate assistant coach for the Bearcats including one season under current Jennies Head Coach Susan Anderson.  

Angel, a native of Lakewood, Calif., attended Mayfair High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Northwest Missouri State.
