In 2013: Did not appear in any games while redshirting ... named to the MIAA Newcomer Academic Honor Roll.

In high school: Bouwens was an honorable mention all-conference offensive lineman for head coach Todd Daine at Olathe Northwest High School ... helped anchor an offensive line that averaged over four yards per carry rushing the football ... was an honorable mention all-state pick as a junior and senior, helping his team to a district championship in 2011 ... was named the team’s lineman of the year in 2011 and won the Raven Pride Award in 2012 ... also lettered three times in wrestling.
