CLAREMORE, Okla. – The No. 3-seeded University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball team is headed back to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals for a third straight year after taking down the No. 2-seeded and Central Regional host Rogers State Hillcats on Saturday evening, May 16, at the RCB Bank Sports Complex.
The Mules (37-15) will face the winner of the No. 1-seeded Pittsburg State and No. 5-seeded Augustana (S.D.) Central Regional semifinal game scheduled for Sunday, May 17, in Pittsburg, Kan., in a best-of-three Super Regional, May 21-23 at a to-be-determined location.The winner of the Super Regional will claim the 2026 NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship and earn a berth to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C.
Central Missouri scored a run each in the first, second, and third innings to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.
Cole Funkhouser drove in
Grant Hollister with a sacrifice bunt for the opening run of the game, before
Drew Veatch stole second base, then scored on a Rogers State error in the second inning. Funkhouser drove in his second run of the game in the third inning on an RBI groundout that plated Hollister.
UCM added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after Funkhouser scored on a Hillcat balk,
Drew Veatch belted an RBI single through the left side, and
Brock Kobel hit a two-run single to right-center, increasing the lead to 7-2.
The Mules added their eighth and final run of the game when Funkhouser stole third base and crossed home plate on another RSU error.
Hollister,
Chase Wilcox, and Funkhouser all had two hits, while Funkhouser and Kobel drove in two runs, leading UCM at the plate in the victory.
Central Missouri left-handed relief pitcher
Chris Massey (3-1) earned the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on just one hit with a season-high six strikeouts and just two walks in 3 2/3 innings, while fellow reliever
Sam Wyrick secured his team-high sixth save of 2026 after finishing the game by throwing three scoreless innings with one strikeout.
For the game, Rogers State (40-15) outhit UCM, 11-10, but committed three errors, while the Mules had no miscues in the contest.
