Jennies Softball Makes It Six Straight with Doubleheader Sweep Thursday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (28-12, 11-5 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Washburn Ichabods (28-17, 5-11 MIAA) winning by final scores of 9-1 (5 inn.) and 5-0, on Thursday, April 9, during Campus Cupboard Day, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

This is the first time the Jens have swept back-to-back-to-back MIAA doubleheaders since the 2021 season when Central Missouri swept Northwest Missouri (April 6), Emporia State (April 9), and Fort Hays State (April 13).

The Jens continue MIAA play on Sunday, April 12, as they host the Emporia State Hornets (22-13, 8-6 MIAA) for a pair of games, during Cancer Awareness Day, with first pitch of game one slated for 1:00 p.m. in Warrensburg.

Game 1: Central Missouri 9, Washburn 1 (5 inn.)
Marisa Johnson opened the scoring with her team-leading 13th round-tripper of the season, before a Taylor Kvale RBI single that plated Lexi Blackmon made it 2-0 Jens after two innings of play.

With one on and one out in the bottom of the third, Taylor Thompson delivered an RBI single that scored Kyrsten Moran, making it 3-0 UCM.

Three batters later, Blackmon's infield single scored Malia Bucksath, before a Cydney Fullerton walk made it bases-loaded with two outs. Kvale cleared the bases with an RBI double off the top of the wall in left field, making it 7-0 Jens after three complete.

The Ichabods scored their lone run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth, but Central Missouri quickly answered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Aly Hageman.

Brumley (8-3) earned the victory in the circle, tossing her team-leading fifth complete-game performance, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out three Ichabod batters.

Moran, Johnson, Blackmon, and Kvale paced the Jens offensively with multi-hit ballgames for good measure.

Game 2: Central Missouri 5, Washburn 0
With one on and two outs in the bottom of the third, Moran opened the scoring with her first collegiate homer to right field, giving the Jens an early 2-0 lead.

Thompson followed suit with her team-leading 13th dinger of the season to lead off the bottom of the fourth, before Blackmon's second homer of the season made it a 4-0 advantage.

Blackmon plated the final run of the ballgame with a sacrifice ground out in the sixth, as Andi Siebeneck improved to 11-4 on the year, allowing no runs on four hits, while Riley Bebb tossed two shutout innings in relief.
