WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (20-8, 4-2 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Quincy Hawks (6-24, 2-4 GLVC), winning by final scores of 10-3 and 3-0, on Tuesday, March 24, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jens continue MIAA play on Friday, March 27, as they take on the Missouri Western Griffons (21-8, 2-4 MIAA) for a pair of games, with first pitch of game one slated for 2:00 p.m. from Griffons Softball Field in St. Joseph, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 10, Quincy 3
Thanks to a team-leading eighth homer of the season from
Marisa Johnson, the Jens jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
The Hawks took the lead with a trio of runs in the ensuing half inning, but with two on and nobody out in the bottom of the fifth,
Bailey Brumley's two-RBI single up the middle gave UCM a one-run lead.
Two batters later, Johnson drove in her third run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly, making it 5-3 UCM after five innings of play.
Central Missouri added five runs in the sixth, highlighted by back-to-back RBI hits from
Taylor Thompson and
Aly Hageman, before
Lexi Blackmon plated the final run of the ballgame with an RBI double.
Brumley (4-2) earned the victory in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out five Hawk batters. The senior also paced the Jens offensively going 3-3 at the dish with two runs scored and two RBI for good measure.
Game 2: Central Missouri 3, Quincy 0
The Jens opened the scoring in the doubleheader finale with a two-RBI double from Thompson that scored
Cydney Fullerton and Brumley in the bottom of the first, before adding an insurance run in the second with an RBI single from Brumley that plated
Jadyn Sheffield.
Andi Siebeneck (8-3) was dominant on the mound, tossing a perfect game through six innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out four Quincy batters en route to her team-leading eighth victory of the season.
Kyrsten Moran paced the Jens offensively, going 3-4 in the ballgame for good measure.
