WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 4-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball completed a three-game MIAA series sweep over Newman after sweeping a doubleheader against the Jets, winning game one, 11-0 in seven innings, and game two, 10-0 in seven innings, on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (15-2, 6-0 MIAA) are scheduled to host Missouri Western State University (7-9, 2-4 MIAA) in a three-game series March 6-8 in Warrensburg.
In UCM's 11-0 victory in game one, Central Missouri scored four runs in the first inning on a
Cole Funkhouser two-run double to left-center and a
Kaiden Ashton two-RBI single through the right side to gain an early 4-0 lead.
The Mules upped their lead to 6-0 with two runs in the fourth on RBI singles from
Chase Wilcox and
Brock Kobel, before adding a run in the sixth when Kobel stole home.
Cole Kreisel delivered the decisive hit in the game, though, crushing a grand slam to left field, ending the game via the 10-run rule after seven innings. It was Kreisel's first home run of the season.
Kobel,
Grant Hollister, and
Ryker Edwards each had two hits, pacing UCM at the plate in the opener.
Starting pitcher
Sawyer Allen (1-0) earned the game one win on the mound after allowing no earned runs on just three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
In the nightcap, Central Missouri scored five runs in the fourth inning to balloon a 2-0 advantage into a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
Funkhouser scored the opening run of the fourth on a Newman error, prior to
Cody Moore crushing his second home run of the season – a two-run homer to left field, and RBI singles from Wilcox and Kobel.
UCM built its advantage to 9-0 in the fifth after
Drew Veatch crossed home plate on a wild pitch and
Cole Young scored on an RBI ground-out from Moore.
Young belted a towering solo home run to left field in the seventh inning – his first of 2026 – to make it 10-0 and wrap up the game via the 10-run rule.
Young went 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs, and an RBI, and Kreisel was 2-for-3 with two runs, leading UCM offensively in the second game.
Reliever
Liam Bryan (2-0) picked up the victory on the rubber, giving up no earned runs on zero hits with one strikeout and one walk in an inning of work.
On the day, the Mules outscored Newman (3-14, 1-6 MIAA), 21-0, and outhit the Jets, 20-5.
