SHAWNEE, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (10-2, 0-0 MIAA) defeated the Upper Iowa Peacocks (4-18, 0-0 GLVC) by a final score of 13-4, on Friday, Feb. 27, during the opening day of the Midwest College Classic from MidAmerica Sports Complex in Shawnee, Kan.
Beginning with an error by the Peacocks off the bat of
Emma McCall that scored
Lexi Blackmon, the Jens put up five runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a
Cydney Fullerton grand slam that brought in
Kyrsten Moran,
Jadyn Sheffield, and McCall.
Fullerton plated her fifth RBI of the ballgame in the fourth, before
Bailey Ast's RBI fielder's choice that scored
Taylor Kvale, made it 7-0 UCM after four and a half innings of play.
Upper Iowa responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Jens quickly answered in the sixth with an RBI double from
Aly Hageman that scored
Marisa Johnson.
With two on and one out in the top of the seventh,
Taylor Thompson blasted her team-leading fourth dinger of the season to left field, scoring
Anna Lee Kulka and Ast, making it a seven-run lead.
The Jens added two more runs in the frame, thanks to an RBI single from Hageman, before
Lexi Blackmon scored the final run of the ballgame off the bat of Moran.
Andi Siebeneck (5-1) picked up her team-leading fifth win of the season in the circle, while
Madelyn Ducheneaux earned her third save, tossing two innings in relief.
Seven Jens recorded multi-hit ballgames, highlighted by three hits from Moran and Brumley in the winning effort.
Central Missouri concludes the Midwest College Classic Saturday, Feb. 28, as they'll take on the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons (1-9, 0-0 NSIC) at 2:40 p.m., before taking on the Bemidji State Beavers (3-9, 0-0 NSIC) at 5:00 p.m., from MidAmerica Sports Complex Field 5, in Shawnee, Kan.
