WARRENSBURG, Mo. – For the 13th time in program history, University of Central Missouri Jennies Basketball is the MIAA Regular Season Champion. The Jennies clinched at least a share of the 2026 MIAA Regular Season Title with a 73-64 win over the Missouri Southern Lions on Wednesday, Feb. 25, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.
UCM (22-5, 16-2 MIAA), which has now won 10 straight games, is scheduled to wrap up its regular season schedule hosting the Pittsburg State Gorillas (18-9, 11-7 MIAA) for Senior Day and UCM Athletics Hall of Fame Day Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
The Jennies and Lions were tied, 46-46, with just over three minutes to go in the third quarter when UCM went on a 6-2 run to take a 52-48 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Central Missouri built its advantage to 57-48 after
Neely Schaaf converted a jump shot and
Jayla Griffith drilled a three-pointer with 8:21 remaining in the quarter. UCM and Missouri Southern continued to trade baskets, allowing the Jennies to extend their lead to as much as 11 points when
Taylor Weishaar connected from three-point range and Schaaf drove to the basket for a layup with three minutes to go.
Missouri Southern (19-8, 13-5 MIAA) attempted to mount a late comeback, but
Reese Schaaf and Weishaar went a combined 5-of-6 at the free-throw line to seal the win.
Reese Schaaf scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-6 performance from three-point range, and a perfect 5-of-5 showing at the free-throw line, and pulled down 14 rebounds for her team and MIAA-best 15th double-double of the season, while Weishaar had 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and a 4-for-5 mark at the free-throw line and dished out five assists, pacing the Jennies.
For the game, Central Missouri shot 45 percent (26-of-58) from the floor, 39 percent (9-of-23) from three-point range, and were 12 out of 17 at the foul line for 71 percent. UCM dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lions, 46-31.
Grace Frazier netted 21 points, and Nariah Clay added 18 points, leading the Missouri Southern.
